This collection is primarily comprised of scrapbooks created by Mrs. Ruth Barnes from 1930-1937. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, letters, and notes regarding the social engagements and civic involvement of Ruth Barnes, her husband, Ben S. Barnes, and their sons, Ben Jr. and Henry. The bulk of the clippings relate to Ruth Barnes' involvement in the Savannah branches of the American Association of University Women and the Young Women's Christian Association. Overall, the clippings provide a sense of the social activity of prominent Savannah society members in the 1930s. In addition, there is one folder of newspaper clippings related to local history and one folder of miscellaneous ephemera containing a receipt, yearbook for the American Association of University Women, 1930-1931, pamphlet from the Owens-Thomas House Museum in Savannah, Georgia, printed sermon from First Presbyterian Church in Macon, Georgia, and a pamphlet on the history of the Hebrew Benevolent Congregation in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ben S. Barnes and his wife, Ruth Barnes (b.1892) were socially prominent and active members of Savannah, Georgia, society in the 1930s. During this period, they lived in the Gordonston neighborhood with two sons, Ben Jr. and Henry.
